Fall Run

Magic Mobile

I saw this car this morning in the Starbucks' parking lot. It is for Tim the magician. That is a giant magic wand on top of the car. It is made from PVC pipe or something. You've got to give it to this guy for creativity.

MCM Porta Potties

I caught the caravan of porta-potties heading down to MCM this morning on the way to work.

This Morning's Commute

There is something about biking in to work that makes me want to stop and take a picture of everyone stuck in traffic. It was a beautiful morning and perfect for commuting by bike!

Weekend ride

These weekend bike rides are starting to have a theme, breaks for great food! Vienna farmer's market:

Orange Juice

Why don't kids like orange juice with pulp?

Running Post Hanna

Today was my first log run in a couple of weeks after injuring my foot. I am now easing back into my marathon training, but with only 8 weeks to go until MCM, I'm going to need to revise my goals.

I ran 12 miles on the trails near me this morning. They are always a mess after heavy rain and with Hanna blowing through here yesterday, I knew that they would be really bad. I started the run by slipping the mud and falling into a creek on the first five minutes of the run. Nothing like running in shoes filled with mud and water for 11.8 miles.

This is part of the trail. Not a creek, but the trail. I had to climb into the woods to get around this stuff a few times.

I had to climb over trees in a few spots:

I ran by the Accotink Marina. I had expected to see it trashed, but it was in pretty good shape. Oddly enough, the parking lot was destroyed in spots.

It was really too bad to see the baseball field trashed. The wall of water and debris destroyed most of the bleachers, fences and the field.

Labor day workout

I'm out riding in the sticks of VA on a 50 mile ride. I forgot how much I enjoy being on the bike. I also took a quick break at the stop pictured below.

Sarah Palin

I don't know much about her, but she has some pretty fugly glasses.

Morning Commute

I ran to work this morning. It was a beautiful morning, just unbelievable weather for August in DC. I parked at a subway station that was 14 miles from my office and ran most of the way on the W&OD trail. I took some pics with my phone along the way.

I started at the Metro:

I ran along the street for about a mile to pick up the W&OD trail:

Over the Beltway:

Through the city of Falls Church:

Into Arlington:

To the end of the W&OD and through Shirlington:

Over the 395 Skyway:

And into Crystal City:

18 Miles

My longest run since MCM last year. Suck it.

Stupid Driver of the Week Part IV

Just in case driving your crap-mobile quickly around an industrial park does not say stupid enough, try hitting yourself in the head with a shovel. Repeatedly.

Running Shoes Made from Rice Husks

There is an article in today's New York Times about running flats with rice husks imbedded in the rubber soles. They absorb water and provide better traction. Ryan Hall and Deena Kastor from the US Olympic marathon team are testing them to see if they might be useful for their races in Beijing.

Stupid Driver of the Week Part III

I have to admit, this one is a little disappointing. But I do enjoy watching a parking gate being taken out.

Stupid Driver Videos

For some reason I am having a great time watching videos of stupid drivers on YouTube lately. There are no end to the number of these videos available. A couple of my favorites at the moment:

Columbia Swim Course

I have never swam in lily pads before! This swim course looks longer than 1500 meters.

Columbia Transition Area

I racked my bike and checked out the swim and run course.

Soaking the Wetsuit

I am racing the Columbia Tri this weekend and just remembered that I have not worn my wetsuit since last year. I am soaking it because it gets dry over a long period of no use and is more likely to rip or feel too tight.

New Site Design

Please bear with me while I get this new site in order. If you are looking for information about my Ironman race and Fisher House fundraising, please use the link on the menu to the right.

Thanks!
